Most of my clients are in Cold Lake.

However, I can travel throughout the Lakeland area if needed. I have a travel rate of $0.75/km, but for straightforward matters like estate planning, real estate, or commissioning and notary work, it usually isn't worth the cost.

The main exception is Legal Aid criminal files, which typically include travel. I like to be efficient so if I am travelling for one file I like to try and find other work I can do there at the same time. I've been practicing since 2020. Before opening my own firm, I have worked in a high conflict family law firm in Calgary, a general practice firm in Wetaskiwin, and a criminal defence in Red Deer.

I opened a general practice firm in Warburg after being called to the bar, then moved home to Cold Lake in 2023 to start Peregrine Legal Services. I never wanted to work at a big firm. I wanted to focus on helping the people who need it.

I find that larger firms tend to complicate simple matters. I like to keep simple things simple, affordable, and fast.

How you book depends on what you need:

• Commissioning or notary: text me and we'll get you booked (often same-day, depending on my schedule).

• Estate planning: fill out this intake form to get started.

• Real estate: start by getting an automatic quote. Feel free to text me to confirm availability, and then pass my info to your realtor or mortgage broker.

Most of my services don’t require a consultation.

If a consultation is required, I charge $150 + GST for most areas (including uncontested family law if both spouses attend) and $300 + GST for contested family law.

If there is a consult fee and you retain me for further work, I credit that fee toward your first invoice, so it's essentially free if you become a client.

It depends, but I try to be flexible. If you need something commissioned or notarized, I offer a same day rush fee and will do my best to rearrange my day to fit you in. For most urgent needs, I can usually make myself available. This is one of the benefits of the way I have set up my firm.

It depends on what we're meeting about, but as a general rule: government-issued photo ID and copies of anything you've received from the Court.

It depends on the area of law. These are all flat fee: real estate, estate planning & administration, commissioning/notary, assisted self-representation, and divorce document prep — though the exact fee varies with the services involved and any complicating factors. Everything else is billed at my hourly rate of $250, which is tied to the Legal Aid rate of $125 per hour.

Absolutely. I can send you a Microsoft Teams link, and I've done FaceTime for meetings before too.

It depends on the matter. If I'm retained as your counsel on a criminal or family file, then yes — I attend court with or for you.

That said, as I move away from contested litigation, my practice involves less court time than it used to.

I'm very reachable by text and email, which is usually the fastest way to get an answer. I do ask that phone calls be scheduled rather than unannounced — unscheduled calls interrupt focused work, so I bill for them.

Keeping communication efficient is part of how I keep my fees reasonable.

It depends on why it's headed there. A file usually has to clear a number of preliminary steps before it ever reaches a courtroom, and the number that actually make it in front of a judge has dropped dramatically.
